Remember that old ATV that your grandpa had in his shed? Odds are, it was an Arctic Cat. While the brand recently lost some footing in the ATV/UTV market to brands like Polaris and Can-Am, side-by-sides from the ol’ frigid kitty are still genuine contenders.
You can grab a high-horsepower sport rig in the Wildcat XX, or you could go with this 2025 Arctic Cat Prowler Crew. Six seats, a winch standard, and a punchy three-banger make this bus of a ute stand out among the rest. All of that for an MSRP under $22,000? Sign us up.

The 2025 Arctic Cat Prowler Crew makes 50 hp and 48 lb-ft of torque through an 812cc three-cylinder. It then sends all of that power through a CVTech Trailbloc CVT. It gets a standard 2WD/4WD drivetrain, but the more important part is that it has a selectable locking rear diff — Or, turf mode. For the uniformed, turf mode is just an open differential. That keeps the rig from tearing up your lawn while on the job.

There’s a reason Polaris and Can-Am are moving towards three-cylinder engines for their utility rigs. The Ranger XD1500 and the Defender HD11 both have one, but the Arctic Cat Prowler came first. Three-bangers are torquey, make decent power, and are small enough to fit in almost any size of side-by-side.
You get tons of value in a Prowler for its $21,999 price point. While there are plenty of rigs you could grab for that, you get a 4,500-lb winch, aluminum wheels, front and rear bumpers, and a roof. And if you have a bit more boot to spare, you can grab an enclosed-cab trim in the Prowler Limited Crew for a $9,000 bump. Sure, $30,999 is pricey, but compare that to most other enclosed-cab, HVAC models on the market and you may change your mind.

If you’re a fan of down-and-dirty rigs that do what they’re made to do and not much else, the Prowler might be right for you. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it will work endlessly for you without much complaint. A 2,000-lb towing capacity and 1,000-lb bed capacity are as close to industry-standard as you can get.

Put simply, there are better rigs out there. It’s not the most powerful, most capable, or even the cheapest. And you might as well forget any aftermarket support. It’s a middle-of-the-road UTV. Nothing less, nothing more.

The right Prowler Crew trim comes down to whether you need HVAC and an enclosed cab. Fine with being one with nature and want to save some money? The XT is your girl. But if you do all-season riding and need to stay comfortable in harsh weather conditions, go with the enclosed-cab Limited trim.

The big-hitter utility rigs come from Polaris and Can-Am in the form of the Ranger and the Defender. There’s a trim in those two models for just about anyone. If you want the best of the best, the Ranger XD 1500 But if you’re looking to save some money, it’s worth checking out the CFMoto UForce series.
