The 2025 Can-Am Maverick X3 Max is the four-door version of Can-Am’s most popular sport side-by-side. The X3 has been around for ages, and it’s rare to hit the trails and not see one.
Like most Can-Am models, the X3 Max has a trim for every budget. Want a cheap ripper that can seat the whole family? The DS Turbo is perfect. If you go to the opposite side of the lineup, you can pick up a fully kitted-out Maverick X3 Max X RS Turbo RR with Smart-Shox. You know its good because of how long the name is.

There’s an X3 for most budgets, and they’re all excellent. You can have just as much fun with the cheapest X3 Max as you can with the priciest model.
The two cheapest models, the DS Turbo and the RS Turbo, make 135 hp out of a turbo’d 900cc triple. As soon as you step up a trim level, power jumps to 200. Different engine? Nope, just an intercooler and a tune for those extra 65 ponies.
All of that is a bit confusing. An easy reminder is if it has “RR” in its name, it makes 200 hp. Anything else and it’s 135.
Both configurations have more than enough power to have a good time. To put it in perspective, the only RZR that pushes 200+ hp is the Pro R. The Pro XP and Pro S both make 181.
Accessibility and customization are what makes the X3 Max one of the most popular four-door side-by-sides on the Market.
For most buyers, you can just walk into your local Can-Am dealer and find an X3 Max that fits your lifestyle and budget. That takes away the annoying process of ordering one through the manufacturer website, waiting on a delivery, and paying extra fees for shipping and handling. Just take a look at the listings on this site. You won’t have to scroll far to find an X3.
There are 10 different trims, which means there’s probably a trim for everyone. It also means it’s confusing to narrow the choices down. On top of that, Can-Am has an extensive accessory catalogue for even more customization. If you need your X3 to perfectly fit your needs and lifestyle, you can build it on Can-Ams website and never have to touch the aftermarket.
The Maverick X3 is as iconic as they come. It’s a good-looking side-by-side, and they’re immediately recognizable on the trail.

There’s a reason why Maverick X3s are so popular. They are well-built, powerful machines that can handle just about anything you throw at them. From rock-crawling to sending it through mud holes, an X3 can do it all. You can even grab an MR or RC, trims that are specifically designed for mudding and rock-crawling, respectively.
The long wheelbase of the X3 Max sweetens the deal even further. A longer wheelbase makes a rig more stable going over obstacles, which is why some consumers buy them even if they ride alone. And if you do ride alone, you’ll always have that option of bringing along friends and family.
As great as the X3 Max is, the line is a bit outdated. That’s even more apparent when you look at the DS Turbo and RS Turbo. Hard, sharp plastics make up the bodywork and the electronics look like they’re straight out of an 80s spy movie.
The X3 has been in production since 2016. That means we’re coming up on ten years with the same styling and a similar engine configuration.
We get a glimpse of what Can-Am is capable of with the Maverick R; the interior is slick and clean, and the center screen has an easy-to-use interface. Seeing that same styling in the X3 would be a welcome change, and maybe would sway more buyers away from new high-tech Polaris models.
Like all things Can-Am, the Maverick X3 Max line has an insane number of trim options. That’s great for potential buyers, but also makes it tough to pick one.
Our choice is the Maverick X3 Max X RS Turbo RR. That model is the 72-inch-wide, 200 hp trim. It also adds 15-inch beadlock wheels, 4-point harnesses, a full roof, and a HMWPE full skid plate. It starts at $34,799, and sits closer to the top if the lineup.
You can always go much cheaper or much more expensive. The base X3 Max DS Turbo is almost $10,000 cheaper, but it loses all of those fancy features, is just 64 inches wide, and only has 135 hp.
On the other end of the spectrum, you can grab the X3 Max X RS Turbo RR with Smart-Shox for $36,499. That comes with Fox 2.5 Podium shocks with Smart-Shox technology, making it one of the best suspension setups on the market.

If you want a badass sport rig and aren’t loyal to Can-Am, the Polaris RZR XP or RZR Pro XP are great choices. They’re both fast, comfortable, and recently updated. Want more power? The Polaris RZR Pro R and Can-Am Maverick R make 225 hp and 240 hp, respectively.
