A large time on a tight budget.

CFMoto’s ZForce line of affordable sport rigs has been making waves on the market for quite some time, but up until recently, it was missing a crucial component: a four-seater. That changed back in the fall of 2024 with the Z-Force 950 Sport-4, the manufacturer’s first crack at building a family-friendly four-door model.

It’s a timely addition to the market to say the least. In a world where four-door sport rigs are some of the largest, fastest, and most expensive machines on the planet, the Sport-4 brings some much needed modesty to the table with a machine that combines an affordable MSRP with a wheelbase that will actually fit most standard trailers.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, other times you get a whole lot less. CFMoto’s ZForce 950 Sport-4, however, brings a new possibility to the table: What if you can get a whole hell of a lot more for a whole hell of a lot less?

How much power does it make?

CFMoto claims their liquid-cooled 963cc V-Twin is good for 83 horsepower at 7,500 rpm. As is typically the case with a big V-Twin, torque looks even more promising with 63 lb-ft delivered as low as 5,000 revs.

Those numbers won’t blow anyone’s hair back, but they are plenty healthy and plenty qualified to scoot a 1,700-pound machine up, around, and down just about anything at a decent clip. It’s all routed through the brand’s patented “CVTech” CVT system, which, to its credit, is one of the smoothest CVT transmissions currently available that we’ve tested in recent years.

What makes it special?

The ZForce 950 Sport-4 has a few important things going for it. The first and most obvious is the price, which, at just $18,999, makes it the most affordable four-door sport machine currently available, assuming you don’t count Kawasaki’s “recreational” Teryx4 model (we certainly don’t).

In addition to sheer affordability, the 950 Sport-4 is also special in that unlike your average bare-bones base model rig, it brings a ton of value to the table in its most basic trim. For your money you’re getting standard features like a full-coverage roof, a 4,500-pound synthetic rope winch, an integrated cargo box, and beadlock wheels, as well as speed-sensitive power steering.

It’s also worth noting that unlike most pure sport rigs, CFMoto brings both a tow rating (1,500 pounds) and a two-inch hitch receiver to the party. Considering just about every other rig in this genre isn’t even rated to tow (much less equipped with the means to do so), this adds some utility potential on top of the ZForce 950 Sport-4’s fun factor.

Last but not least, the ZForce 950 Sport-4 measures just 60 inches wide, which means it can access more trail systems than the typical Chevrolet Suburban-sized four seaters other manufacturers bring to the table. This makes the 950 a great match for the narrow trails we frequent here on the East Coast.

Why do I want it?

You want the ZForce 950 Sport-4 because you want a machine that can show a family of four a good time without requiring a second mortgage. It may not be the most powerful rig on the planet, but its liquid-cooled v-twin still has plenty of pep to thrill, even when loaded down with four full-sized adults and their gear.

You also don’t want to sacrifice quality or features in the quest for the lowest monthly payment possible. In addition to the standard factory features mentioned above, the 950 Sport-4 also boasts a comfortable interior that punches well above its price point with a decidedly above-average fit and finish from the soft-touch steering wheel to the bright digital instrument cluster.

Ride quality is also above average here, both in terms of sharp handling and bump absorption. The Sport-4’s 13 inches of suspension travel isn’t exactly industry leading, but its exceptionally well damped and keeps all but the hardest hits from upsetting the ride or the passengers.

Why don’t I want it?

Most folks turn their nose up at CFMoto’s machines simply because they’re made in China. In our experience these rigs are as well thought out and well put together as anything else out there, but the stigma remains that Chinese products are inherently lacking in quality compared to their competitors.

As for real-world practical gripes, we have two worth noting. The first is that the rear passenger seats don’t utilize “stadium seating,” meaning shorter folks sitting in the back may not have the best view of the action going on up front. We’ll also note that while the front seats have plenty of legroom, passengers over six foot may feel a bit cramped in the back seat.

Our other complaint is that while the aforementioned 83 horsepower motor has plenty of oomph to entertain, another 15-20 ponies would be nice to have, especially when you’re climbing steeper hills with a full car. The machine never struggles to get where it’s going, but when you’re going uphill, you’ll feel the extra 250 pounds CFMoto tacked on to fit those extra seats.

What trim do I want?

As of this writing, the ZForce 950 Sport-4 only comes a single trim. CFMoto offers plenty of factory accessories including touchscreen infotainment packages and beefier protection, but you’ll have to do it all a-la-carte from the dealer catalog.

If I like this… what else should I look at?

Taking the 950 Sport-4’s approachable price and 60-inch track into consideration, the only truly direct competitor out there is Can-Am’s Maverick Sport Max. The Mav delivers a full 100 horsepower, but it’s also a bit more expensive and doesn’t include bells and whistles like a roof, a winch, or beadlock wheels.
